Thank you for taking the time to visit the Brown School web site. All of us at Brown school are dedicated to academic, social, and emotional growth of all children.
Brown School has traditionally performed well on state assessments and we are certainly proud of our achievements. However, we measure learning with a broader lens than standardized tests can provide. Our students are taught to think about their learning and demonstrate their knowledge using technology, writing, art, music, and performance. We regularly measure learning to assess our instruction to ensure we are providing students the basic skills they need to become articulate thinkers who ask questions and challenge assumptions.
At Brown School we carefully monitor the mental health of the student body and we provide proactive social competency strategies to help students navigate the social challenges they face every day. We teachthose strategies through the Open Circle curriculum and we have consistent behavioral expectations for all students. This year we are focusing on developing Collaborative Problem Solving strategies to help us find positive outcomes for difficult situations. These approaches help us create and maintain a positive school environment where children feel safe to take risks in learning.
Over the summer the inner courtyard of Brown School was transformed into an outdoor classroom. The outdoor environment will provide our students opportunities to study science standards in a protected environment as well as other curriculum. We also will design exercise stations around the courtyard for our students who need motor breaks and exercise throughout the day.
