Kindergarten Registration Admission to Kindergarten
For admission to Kindergarten in Natick, a child must be five years of age on or before August 31, of the year in which the child will enter Kindergarten.
Families are mailed a letter providing information about how to register their child for school and participate in transition activities.
Registration - Paperwork
The required forms for registration listed below are completed and return to the elementary school office (drop off or by mail) in February.
Upon receipt of the completed paperwork, the school schedules the parent and child for a registration appointment. In addition to the forms listed above, registration requires the additional information listed below be shown to the school secretary when the parent and child visit the school:
- Proof of residency (such as a utility bill, lease or mortgage statement specifying family name and address)
- Child's original birth certificate
Registration - Visit
Parents will receive notification from the school office of their assigned registration appointment time. Appointments will take 45-50 minutes.
- Check in at office - the school secretary will confirm that the registration packet is complete or provide notice that the registration is incomplete due to missing information
- Meet the counselor - parent(s)/child will meet briefly with the school counselor who will review the Student Information Form and inquire about any additional information that is important for the school to know about the student
- Meet the school nurse - the nurse will measure height/weight and conduct a hearing test on each child then meet briefly with the parent(s) to review the Health Information Packet (in instances where children have significant health history information to be shared, we ask our nurses to schedule a follow up appointment to afford ample time to meet with parents, separate from that of the screening). (Note that physicians are required to conduct vision tests in accordance with Department of Public Health regulations.)
- Developmental screening - each child will meet 1:1 with an educator for a very general developmental screening (language skills, motor skills, self-help skills, social development and cognition)
Parent Information Night and Student Orientation Visits
During your registration visit parents will be given specific information about the Parent Information Night (generally held in late April at each school) and Student Orientation Visit sessions to be scheduled in May.
Classroom Assignment and Beginning of School Schedule
In late June, parents receive a letter indicating their child's class assignment and a schedule for the first week of school.
