Financial Aid Applying for Financial Aid
I. FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
FAFSA workseets (not the actual FAFSA form) become available in the guidance office and on-line sometime in the late Fall of the student's senior year. All students applying for any Federal financial aid must file this form as soon as possible after January 1st. Student are encouraged to complete the form on-line at www.fafsa.edu.gov. There is no cost to file this form. Analysis of the data on this form will deterime eligibility for Pell Grants, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG), Stafford Loans (both subsidized and nonsubsidized), Perkins Loans, Work Study and other Federal and State aid programs. Since Federal aid is a key part to most awards, it is critical that this is filed in a timely manner. Students and parents must request a PIN (Personal Identification Number) at the FAFSA website prior to having access to the FAFSA. You may apply for a PIN in th fall of a student's senior year. The FAFSA should be filed after January 1st but before the student's earliest college financial aid deadline.
II. CSS Financial Aid Profile
Many schools require the Profile, in addition to the FAFSA (primarily private schools). Those schools requiring the Profile will indicate this in their literature and are listed on the Profile website. The Profile must be filed on-line at www.collegeboard.com. Students will answer questions and indicate colleges to which they are applying. A student registration fee is required, along with an additional cost per college. Students will receive a Profile application via email, which is customized to contain college-specific questions. Information obtained by the Profile will be used to deterimine the student's eligibility for the institution's own funds. Students should complete a Profile registration form in the fall of their senior year in time to meet their earliest college financial aid deadline.
III. Financial Aid Forms Specific to the Individual College
Some colleges will provide a short financial aid form as part of their own application. This must be completed and returned to the college by the deadline.
