Massachusetts Tests for ELE Students

What techniques are used to teach English Language Education

(ELE) English as a Second Language
General Information

Who qualifies for English Language Education (ELE)?
Any student who speaks a language other than English may request an English Language Proficiency exam.   The exam defines a child's ability with English conversation, vocabulary, reading and writing.

Where are ELE classes taught?
Brown School (Grades K-4)
Kennedy Middle School (Grades 5-8)
Natick High School (Grades 9-12)

What is ELE?
A typical ELE classroom looks like this:  children working in small groups with an instructor, previewing and reviewing material studied in the general education classroom, receiving individualized support based on each child's unique needs, working on projects and homework assignments.

ELE classes are taught by a Massachusetts licensed teacher with specialization in English as a Second Language.  ELE teachers use research-based techniques to help students acquire English so that they may fully participate in their schools and community.
