NHS Voluntary Laptop Purchase Program
1:1 Student Laptop Program
Dear Natick High School families for the 2015 - 2016 School Year,
The 1:1 laptop program your child currently utilizes as part of their educational experience at Natick High School is entering its fourth year of full implementation. Some laptops are entering their fifth year if used during the 2010/11 “practice” year as the new high school was being built with the infrastructure needed to support a building-wide 1:1 program. As a result, some of our laptops are at or near the end of their useful life. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to assess the current program and plan for a sustainable future.
The 1:1 laptop program has proven to be successful in improving student achievement, preparing students to be college-ready, and promoting the development of 21st century skills whether for the immediate job market or to meet college expectations. It is an educational responsibility that we continue to prepare students for a productive life beyond high school with this type of program. Sustaining this dynamic, educational program is a major priority for us.
To both help sustain the program and create options for our families, all high school students now have an opportunity to purchase a new laptop or new Chromebook for the 2015–16 school year. This new program is a voluntary program that allows families ownership of their devices and could be the basis for a sustainable model that would keep our NHS students competitive with the requirements for technology use both during and after high school.
