Transfer of Flag Ceremony
Kennedy Middle School

Wednesday, MAy 23rd is the 88th Transfer of Flag Ceremony for the Town of Natick.  This year it will be at Kennedy Middle School starting at 7pm.  The Transfer is a unique tradition, and I believe Natick is the only town on the state that has this type of program.

A little bit about the transfer:

  • It is held the Wed. before Memorial Day and kicks off the Town's observance of the holiday.
  • The program is Co-Sponsored by the Natick Public Schools and the E.P.Clark Post #107 of the American Legion (the Natick Legion Post).
  • Each of the Public Schools in Natick selects a student to be the Standard Bearer - the student who is "responsible" for the American Flag at the school (raising the flag each day, folding the flag during inclement weather, etc..).  Each school has it's own selection criteria but the common theme is that they represent the very best in our schools - good students, good citizens, etc.
  • Each Standard Bearer shares the responsibility with an Alternate Standard Bearer.
  • The Outgoing Standard Bearer (this year's)  and the Incoming Standard Bearer (next year's) make a brief speech when they "transfer" the flag from one to another.

If you are free please stop by Kennedy to see this wonderful event.
