NEW NATICK HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING UPDATE

Welcome to the bulletin covering the New Natick High School Building project. This bulletin is a publication of the School Department and the Natick School Committee. We hope you will find these quick updates useful and informative.

What's Going On Now?

We are waiting for the general bids to arrive at Town Hall Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at 3:00pm. This public bid opening will be the beginning of the next chapter for the new Natick High School.

What's Next?
Once we have acceptable competitive bids in hand we can begin to schedule the ground breaking.

How Can I Learn More?
The district has a website dedicated to the project, and new materials are added each week, if there are notable changes. Visit http://www.natickps.org/newnatickhigh/homepage.cfm  to learn more.  The site contains a list of proposed green features, history of the project, site selection considerations, and a great deal more. Every School Committee meeting features a detailed update of the project and the public is welcome to attend.  The Natick High School Building Committee which supervises schedule, cost and construction of the project also holds public meetings, posted on this website and soon on the the towns : http://natickma.gov/Public_Documents/NatickMA_Calendar/





Progress Continues -

Bidding is in progress

On July 21, 2010 the completed documents for the new Natick High School were ready for bidding. The pre-qualified filied sub-contractor's bids are due on August 18th and the general contractor's bids are due on September 1st.

Natick has selected a site for the new high school

School Committee voted unanimously to accept the High School Building Committee's recommendation of the existing high school site at its meeting on September 24, 2009. The School Committee weighed all factors in their decision, neighborhood concerns, safety, educational appropriateness and cost.

Natick has selected a model school & architect

After an in-depth review of the model schools and their designers, the Building Committee has recommended Architectural Involution (Ai3) representing the Whitman-Hanson model as the top ranked firm. At its meeting on August 17, 2009 the Natick School Committee voted to accept the building committee's recommendation.

Accomplishments to-date includes:

Completed Statement of Interest
Identified vision of educational needs for next 20 years
Selected by the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) to perform a Feasibility Study of the high school.
Selected a Building Committee
R.F. Walsh Owners project manager, has completed the feasibility study which shows the value of new Construction vs.renovation
Ranked the model school architects under consideration ? Negotiate a contract with the selected architect
Schematic design of building or select model school
Get funding agreement with MSBA
Complete design of new school
Pre-qualify sub and general contractors
