Marscher, Buckmire Named to Lilja Leadership Posts
Natick Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Anna P. Nolin has named Dr. Shelby Marscher the interim principal at Lilja Elementary School for the 2022-23 school year. Jovanne Buckmire is the new vice-principal at Lilja Elementary School.
Dr. Marscher has been at Lilja since 2014, serving as the school psychologist and assistant to the principal. She provides assessment, counseling, intervention, consultation, and collaboration to promote positive behavior and support social-emotional learning needs.
Buckmire, a seven-year veteran of NPS, currently teaches second grade at Lilja and previously taught kindergarten at the school. She is the second-grade professional learning community leader for NPS.
Next week, I will have a press release on a few more key members of our leadership team district-wide.
District Soft-Close
A friendly reminder, the district will soft-close its buildings from June 28-July 8, so all full year staff can use vacation days they have not been able to take during the school year. This may mean a delay in return calls, emails and visits/appointments. We do this as a mental health support to our staff so they can be truly off and rest for a period of time when students are no longer in their care and before summer school starts.

Tutoring for Grades 5-12 Coming Soon
NPS has partnered with Paper to provide unlimited access to trained tutors so every student in grades 5-12 can ask questions, work through problems, and grow their confidence—at no cost to families.
Paper is an online, on-demand tutoring service that provides students with unlimited, 24/7 academic support. Whether they’re stuck on homework, studying for a test, or need someone to read and make suggestions to their writing, there will always be experts available online to assist students one-on-one in all subject areas and in more than 4 languages. See Paper FAQs to learn more.
Paper tutors have been specially trained to conduct expert, academic support in a secure, chat-based platform. With a commitment to helping students learn, they’ll never give students answers, but rather facilitate deeper learning by asking guiding questions and providing timely encouragement.
Paper tutors act as 24/7 teaching assistants, so teachers can allocate instructional time effectively knowing their students always have an extra helping hand. Teachers are always able to review student sessions to identify learning gaps and adjust their instruction as needed.
View a demo video here, and look for more information on this service before the start of the 2022-23 school year.

June Update on End of Free & Reduced Lunch Program for All Students
We want to update you regarding the free school meals that Natick Public Schools has been able to serve to your children since the beginning of COVID in March 2020. When COVID started, the federal government created a national policy that allowed schools in the entire country to provide free meals to all students. As of now, it is likely that this national policy will end on June 30. We hope this is not the case, but we want to be prepared and want to give all families time to prepare for this change.
What this means for Natick Public Schools families is that next school year we may return to the traditional system, where students receive free, reduced-price, or full-price meals based upon income status. To ensure we can provide free or reduced-price meals to as many families as possible, we will need families to complete the household Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals in July 2022 for next school year. Please note that this does not affect the remainder of the current school year. We will continue to offer free breakfast and lunch to ALL students until this school year ends.
The most important thing that you can do to prepare for the start of school is to complete the 22-23 MA Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals, which will be available in July 2022. We strongly encourage ALL families to submit this form as it is very important to the district’s records and allows us to also waive additional fees for those who qualify.
In addition, please consider applying for SNAP, the federal nutrition program that provides eligible residents with monthly financial assistance to purchase groceries. While the 22-23 MA Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals is not available to complete until July, the application for SNAP is available now. More SNAP information can be found at gettingsnap.org.
The food services department at NPS thanks you for your patience during this anticipated change and we understand the burden that this may place on many families. As always, we are grateful for the opportunity to provide nourishing and healthy meals to all NPS students.

Natick Education Foundation
Annual Teacher Tribute Drive
As we come to the end of another school year, give your favorite teacher(s), staff, or administrators a gift with meaning—a tribute gift to the Natick Education Foundation (NEF). NEF accepts gifts starting at $25 to honor and recognize the people who work with your children every day. Honorees are acknowledged with a letter from NEF and their principals are notified as well.
NEF is a 501c3 non-profit. Your tribute donations are tax-deductible and are not subject to the financial gift limits.
Your donation will both celebrate the individuals or teams as well as support the work of NEF including grants, professional development, and scholarships to graduating seniors.
