Dear Community:
Thank you to all who sent well-wishes to our teachers, principals, and lunch staff heroes as we celebrated their days of national tribute. We have a tremendous staff, and while we all celebrate them every day, these special treats and notes you send mean the world. I still have a box of all the kind and thank you notes given to me as a teacher and principal!
Special shout out to the six classes of writers/empowered and civically engaged Wilson Middle School students I talked with this week. Their writings and their civics curriculum, Generation Citizen, discussions were energizing and important. I am so proud of them, and, of course, of the staff who make these learning moments possible.
We wish Eid Mubarak to community members celebrating Eid-al-Fitr this week hope it was a joyous breaking of the month long fast for Ramadan.
For those of you celebrating Mother's Day this weekend, enjoy!
May is a busy month with state testing, spring sports, concerts, special events, dances and year-end wrap up of key material. If your child is overburdened by all of the return to these events, please reach out to your child's guidance counselor or to your child's trusted adult so we can lend further support.

NPS Students Take Second at Tenacity Challenge
The Latinx and African American Tenacity Challenge is an annual academic scholarship competition for teams of Latinx and African-American students from urban and suburban high schools across Massachusetts. During the extended period of preparation in math, art, literature, and history, students build academic capacity, strengthen intellectual risk-taking and develop enduring peer and faculty relationships.
Congratulations to our Natick High Dreamers for taking second-place in math, art, and overall! And a big shout out to advisor Rasheedah Clayton and coaches Amanda Egan (math), Heather Gates (art), Andrea Rogers (English), and Shawn Burton (history) for their work with the team!

School Committee Honors Kennedy School Building Committee
At the Natick School Committee meeting on April 25, we recognized our Kennedy School Building Project Committee and contractors for their years of service to overseeing the project. Not only did the new middle school get finished on time; it came in $10.3M under budget! View the full presentation given to the School Committee. Our community building committee, led by Steve Meyler, oversaw every facet of this project and worked with our contractors to diligently deliver a state-of-the-art school that's attracted attention from other districts nationwide.

Changes Coming to Universal Free Lunch Program
Summer lunch program also ending
As you may have heard on the news, the recent appropriations package passed by Congress does not include extending the current free school lunch program past June 30, 2022. As a result we’re unable to provide universal free meals as we have the last two years, beginning with the 2022-23 school year. What does this mean for you?
NPS will return to the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and our Summer Eats sites will not be available this year. Free and reduced price meals will only be offered to students directly certified for these meals or approved through a household application (available July 1). We understand that this is a big change for all, and we’re notifying you now so you’re aware you’ll need to re-adjust to meal charges after such a long time without having to worry about it. We’ll keep you updated on any other developments from our partners at DESE and the USDA.
