Section 504 Overview
Students who have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity may be protected under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Students who qualify under the law may receive reasonable accommodations to allow them to access the educational environment. A request for a referral for a 504 evaluation should be forwarded to your child’s school Principal or designee. A referral for a Section 504 evaluation could result in a request for a special education evaluation if the suspected disability could also fall within a category of special education eligibility.
