Title IX
What is Title IX?
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance. Title IX protects students, employees, and others participating in school programs and activities from sex discrimination and requires schools to respond appropriately when concerns are reported.
Title IX protections apply throughout the school environment and may include concerns involving sexual harassment, sexual violence, discrimination on the basis of sex, discrimination related to pregnancy or related conditions, unequal opportunities in athletics or educational programs, and retaliation against an individual for reporting discrimination or participating in a Title IX process.
Natick Public Schools takes all allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination on the basis of sex seriously. When the District receives a report or allegation of conduct that may constitute sexual harassment or discrimination on the basis of sex, the District will promptly review the information and respond in accordance with applicable law and District policy. This may include conducting an investigation under the appropriate District procedures, even when the reported conduct does not ultimately meet the specific legal definition of sexual harassment under Title IX.
The District's Title IX Coordinator oversees the District's response to Title IX concerns, including reviewing reports, providing information about supportive measures, explaining available resolution and grievance processes, and ensuring that reports are addressed in a prompt, fair, and impartial manner.
Students, families, staff members, and community members are encouraged to contact the District's Title IX Coordinator with questions, concerns, or reports of possible sexual harassment or discrimination on the basis of sex. Retaliation against any person for reporting a concern, making a complaint, or participating in a Title IX process is prohibited.
