Annual Technology Fee for High School Students:

General Information: 

Student Technology for Grades 5–12

As part of Natick Public Schools’ commitment to personalized learning and access to technology, all students in grades 5–12 are issued a school-owned Chromebook and charger for educational use during the school year. These devices remain the property of Natick Public Schools and are collected at the end of each school year so they can be updated and inspected for damage. The same device will be returned to the student the following year. 

Student personal devices are not allowed to be used in School.


Program Overview

  • Each student is issued one Chromebook and a charger.

  • Students are expected to bring their Chromebook to school each day, fully charged.

  • Chromebooks are for educational use only and are governed by the NPS Responsible Use Policy (RUP).

Annual Technology Fee

A $50 annual fee is charged per student to cover maintenance, support, and loaner devices.

  • A family cap of $100 per year applies.

  • Fee must be paid before device distribution. [Insert online payment link or instructions.]

Damage and Loss

Repairs follow a tiered cost structure:

  • Tier I – Normal wear/tear: Covered by annual fee.

  • Tier II – Minor damage (e.g., keyboard, battery): Up to $75.

  • Tier III – Significant damage (e.g., cracked screen): Up to $200.

  • Tier IV – Lost or unrepairable devices (e.g., water damage, neglect): Full replacement cost. Lost charging cables can be replaced for $20.

Student Responsibilities

Students must:

  • Bring the Chromebook fully charged each day.

  • Use only their assigned login credentials

  • Follow NPS's Responsible Use Policy and behavior expectations.

  • Store, handle, and transport devices with care at all times.

Failure to charge the Chromebook may result in classroom consequences. Repeated issues follow a progressive discipline process.


Care and Maintenance

  • Use only approved cleaning products.

  • Avoid placing items between the screen and keyboard.

  • Never walk with an open Chromebook.

  • Do not place heavy objects on the device or store it at the bottom of a bag.

  • Keep Chromebooks away from food, liquids, pets, and extreme temperatures.

At Home

  • Use in supervised, visible areas.

  • Parents/guardians are responsible for monitoring internet use.

  • Chromebooks should be stored in safe locations and never left in cars overnight.

Internet and Email Use

  • Student email accounts are provided via the NPS Google platform.

  • All email and internet activity is monitored and not considered private.

  • Content filters are active in school and off campus; however, we recommend parents monitor off-campus use. 

  • Students must follow internet safety rules and report inappropriate content to a trusted adult.
