On Wednesday, March 22, 2023, the Natick School Committee voted to approve an open search for the interim superintendent position for the 2023-24 school year. The document outlining the themes from the listening tour conducted with district and town leadership, as well as the process, can be found here:

Listening Tour Themes and Interim Selection Process

The next step is to work with the NPS Human Resources Department to develop the job description and post the position. We expect to have a timeline shortly and will send it out to staff and the community by Friday, March 31, 2023.

Please reach out to the School Committee with any questions.

Interim Superintendent Task Force

Shai Fuxman

Elise Gorseth

Julie McDonough

March 10, 2023

As shared last week, the School Committee has formed a task force charged with recommending a process to the full School Committee for identifying an interim superintendent for the 2023-24 school year. The members of the task force include School Committee members Shai Fuxman, Elise Gorseth, and Julie McDonough.

The task force determined that the first step in the process would be to conduct a listening tour with key district leaders. District leaders include central office administrators, department leads, building principals, and union leadership. The task force will also speak with select town leaders with whom the district works closely. The listening tour has already begun and we expect it to conclude within 10 days. Following the listening tour, the task force will recommend a process to the full School Committee on selecting the interim. We expect to recommend this process, and for the School Committee to vote, by the end of March at the latest.

We know that it is critical that we move quickly to secure an interim superintendent for the 2023-24 school year. The task force is working closely with Director of Human Resources Suzanne Kenney to ensure we are working within a timeline that will result in a successful process and selection.

We will keep you updated as we continue with the process. Should you have any questions or feedback, please email:

The Natick School Committee would like to congratulate Dr. Nolin on her new position as the next superintendent of the Newton Public Schools. She has been an outstanding leader for our district and we are deeply grateful for the nearly 20 years of service she dedicated to the Natick Public Schools.

While there are too many accomplishments from her tenure to note here, we do want to thank her specifically, on behalf of the district and the town, for her strong and unwavering leadership during the pandemic. Because of this leadership, she leaves our district in a solid position to continue our recovery from this unprecedented global event. In addition, we are thankful for her work in building a strong administrative team of experienced central office leaders and school principals who will guide us through this transition. Thank you and best of luck, Anna!

As a School Committee, we are prepared to begin the search for the next leader of our terrific school system. We are fortunate to enter into this process with a sound educational program, as well as strong social-emotional supports, for our students. Our multi-year strategic plan provides a solid roadmap for the district as we navigate this transition. The Natick Public Schools are in a strong financial position and we are grateful for our collaborative working relationship with town leaders. Finally, we are extraordinarily fortunate to have a strong partnership with our unions and will count on their guidance, input, and support throughout this process.

We have determined that we will appoint an interim superintendent for the 2023-24 school year and have established a task force of three School Committee members to initiate this process. Over the next few weeks, we will work in partnership with district administrators and union leadership to understand their vision for an interim leader who will guide our district over the next year.

Then, in early summer and extending through next fall, we will begin the process of conducting a deep and thorough search for the next permanent leader of our district. The search process will include meaningful and extensive staff, family, and community engagement and feedback. Most importantly, our superintendent search will be transparent and the School Committee will provide regular updates throughout the process.

We look forward to partnering with faculty, staff, families, and the community in this search process. Thank you for your continued support of the Natick Public Schools.

Sincerely,

The Natick School Committee
