Superintendent Update Regarding Outdoor Evening Events: Friday, 9/12/25
Dear Natick Community,
I am writing to share an important update regarding outdoor athletics and activities, as we continue to work closely with the Natick Health Department.
The Department of Health has informed us of the following:
“The pesticide applications from the Central MA Mosquito Control Program (CMMCP) at school facilities were conducted on Thursday evening, September 11, 2025. This action, combined with a significant decrease in mosquito activity in Natick (as reported by CMMCP) and an overall drop in temperatures, allows the Health Department to rescind its recommendation to stop all sports and athletic-related activities at dusk.”
In alignment with this guidance, Natick Public Schools will resume all outdoor evening activities beginning Saturday, September 13, 2025. We are pleased that these steps will enable athletic practices, games, and community events to return to their regular schedules.
Please note, however, that the Massachusetts Department of Public Health continues to classify Natick at a “high risk” level for West Nile Virus until the first frost. We urge all residents to remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions to reduce the risk of mosquito bites.
We remind all students, families, and community members to continue practicing the “5 D’s” of mosquito safety:
Dusk and Dawn – Limit outdoor activities during these peak mosquito hours whenever possible.
DEET – Apply insect repellent containing DEET or another EPA-approved ingredient.
Dress – Wear long sleeves and pants to help reduce exposed skin.
Drain – Eliminate standing water around your home where mosquitoes breed.
These simple yet effective practices remain an important part of protecting yourself and your family from mosquito-borne illness, even as additional spraying takes place.
Thank you for your continued patience, understanding, and cooperation throughout this precautionary period. The health and well-being of our students and community remain our top priority, and we appreciate your partnership as we balance safety with the many opportunities that bring our community together. As always, we encourage parents to use their best judgment in making decisions that support their students and families.
Sincerely,
Melissa Spash
Superintendent
